Draconian State Spending Cap Defeated
Paschal | Roth led the statewide earned media team that defeated Governor Schwarzenegger’s flawed and unworkable Prop. 1A on the May 2009 special election ballot. The resounding voter rejection of Prop. 1A prevented the implementation of a severely restrictive state budget cap that would have done serious, permanent damage to health care and services to the elderly and people with disabilities, among other priorities.
Permanent Mental Health Funding Cuts Avoided
Paschal | Roth spearheaded a powerful media campaign to push back against Governor Schwarzenegger’s proposal to permanently reverse key provisions of the voter-approved Mental Health Services Act in early 2009. By drawing attention to the serious damage that would be done to people living with mental illness and their families, the effort was successful taking permanent Prop. 63 diversions off the budget negotiating table.
New Energy and Jobs Agenda Advanced
Paschal | Roth launched the Apollo Alliance’s roadmap for a national clean energy, good-jobs plan in a roll-out that included events in 6 states and Washington, D.C. Bringing together leaders in business, labor, environmental and community organizations and academia, Paschal|Roth created substantive and visually-compelling media events that earned substantial nationwide news coverage. The coalition created an unstoppable momentum that made record investment in green jobs a focus of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed by President Obama in early 2009.
