ENSHRINED IN CALIFORNIA’S CONSTITUTION
On the heels of the Supreme Court’s earth-shattering Dobbs decision, our team helped propel California’s Proposition 1 to a historic victory, enacting a constitutional right to safe and legal abortion in California. Paschal|Roth led the campaign’s earned media strategy with a focus on trusted ethnic media outlets in voter-dense Southern California. Our work generated highly-coveted coverage in the LA Sentinel, Sing Tao Newspapers, and on SBS Korean TV.
KIDS PROTECTED
FROM BIG TOBACCO
Our team proudly partnered with Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, developing the strong message and strategic media outreach which helped propel the passage of local and statewide bans on flavored tobacco products. Strategic op-eds and strong editorial support from influential publications like the Los Angeles Times, Sacramento Bee and The Mercury News cemented a double-digit ballot box victory over big tobacco. The campaign dominated TV coverage with creative events ranging from a funeral for Big Tobacco to a statewide bus tour.
LIVES SAVED
WITH HISTORIC NEW INVESTMENTS IN PUBLIC HEALTH
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, our team partnered with the County Health Executives Association of California and the California Can’t Wait Coalition to formulate an earned media and coalition campaign that secured $300 million annually in historic new state and local public health investments. News stories and op-eds in CalMatters, Sacramento Bee, and Mercury News and editorial board support from major media markets, including the Sacramento Bee, made public health investment a can’t-ignore issue for state leaders after a decade of disinvestment.
WORKERS RISING
WITH HISTORIC ORGANIZING VICTORIES
Child care providers mounted the biggest union organizing campaign in recent California history, winning their first union contract in 2019. Our team laid the groundwork with statewide op-eds, editorials, and media hits that told the stories of essential women of color in every major outlet in the state. Their victory garnered national media coverage and kept the momentum going into their 2023 historic contract win.
CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITION
RAMPS UP
In 2022, on behalf of American Clean Power – CA we helped pass AB 525, which required the state to develop a strategic plan for offshore wind power development to help meet California’s clean energy goals. Our team landed key op-eds in San Francisco Chronicle and CalMatters, numerous news stories, and editorials like this example in order to overcome obstacles in the state legislature.
HISTORIC CLIMATE INVESTMENTS
IN THE CALIFORNIA BUDGET
In 2022, we worked with California Environmental Voters on their Climate Courage budget campaign that helped pave the way for a historic $54 billion investment in climate action. We also worked in support of SB 260, the Climate Corporate Accountability Act. In tandem with earned media, our work focused primarily on an aggressive paid media campaign that included digital ads, full page print ads, and billboards.
SAFE WATER
FOR ALL CALIFORNIA COMMUNITIES
In 2019, we worked with the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund Coalition to help pass SB 200, which will deliver $1.4 billion over 11 years to realize California’s human right to safe water for all. We placed many stories across the state, along with editorials in The Los Angeles Times, The Mercury News, The Sacramento Bee, and San Francisco Chronicle. We also placed many op-eds, including The Bakersfield Californian, CalMatters, The Sacramento Bee, The San Diego Union Tribune, and Visalia Times Delta.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING BUILT
WITH GOOD-PAYING JOBS
In 2022, in partnership with the California Housing Consortium, we helped pass AB 2011, which guarantees prevailing wages and an expedited construction process for housing projects close to city centers. We placed key op-eds, columns, and editorials including these examples from The Mercury News, The Los Angeles Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle when it mattered to help this breakthrough legislation pass.
